In the past two months, Brooklyn’s Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds (a nine piece funk/soul/r&b group) has been written up in Musicians & Music Magazine (who likened them to “a snazzy dance band that refuses to wear shoes”) and Washington Post (who’s said their sophomore effort, Pound of Dirt, is “the kind of studio album that should translate easily to the stage”; and were included in US Today‘s April 10 10-song playlist.
According to the band’s bio, they’re “led by Arleigh Kincheloe (Sister Sparrow), whose astoundingly powerful voice and sly demeanor make for a spellbinding presence onstage.” And, according to the band’s blog, “It’s very strange to be in a profession where by definition you’re ‘living in the moment’ every single night. Playing like it’s your last show, your last chance to leave something memorable, something meaningful up on that stage.”
