Project Green Runway

The tag line for Project Green Runway, organized by local student Ariel Betancourt, is “Saving the Earth One Fashionista at a Time.” Nice.

Ariel is a local model (she appears, below, in a 2007 Xpress fashion shoot, wearing a design by More Than Mammal), and she’s also passionate about both sustainability and the local community as Project Green Runway spotlights both. Fashions sent down the catwalk at the Wednesday, April 21 event will be the repurposed, recycyled and upcycled works of local designers and boutiques. And funds raised from the show will go to help the The Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP).

Project Green Runway features designs by:
Sew Moe

Arteries by Stina.

Honeypot

Royal Peasantry

Parlour and Wink; models from “all over the South” and a Dj dance party following the runway show.

The details:
Wednesday, April 21, 6 p.m.
At Tressa’s Downtown Jazz & Blues (28 Broadway St., Asheville, 254-7072)
$15 suggested donation: All proceeds benefit WNCAP.

Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we’ve never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
