The Lizzy Ross Band formed in 2009 and has spent the past four years fighting for a spot in the local limelight. Fortunately, the Chapel Hill group has earned plenty of time to shine. The band won a spot on FloydFest 2013 after placing second in that festival’s prior Under the Radar Contest, and Ross was named a finalist at the 2012 and 2013 Kerrville, Texas New Folk Songwriting Contests. The band even scored a spot at 2012’s Hopscotch Festival in Raleigh alongside such diverse acts as the Roots, Built to Spill and Sunn O))).
The band’s most recent album, Read Me Out Loud, jumps effortlessly from bluesy meditation to country-tinged exultation. Ross is backed by Luis Rodriguez on guitar, Brett Hart on bass and Max Palmer on drums.
The Lizzy Ross Band will play at the Isis Restaurant and Music Hall (743 Haywood Road) on Friday, July 12 at 9 p.m. The show is all ages and tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. For more information, call 828-575-2737 or visit their site here.
