The 2013 Fringe Arts Festival is already in the planning phase, but first there’s the World Fringe Congress in Edinburgh, Scotland this August. Asheville’s Fringe Arts Festival will send a local delegation, hence this weekend’s Fringe Benefit.
Two different shows are scheduled for the BeBe Theatre (20 Commerce St., Asheville) on Saturday, July 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, July 22 at 6 p.m.
According to a press release, the benefit shows “will feature performances by past fringe artists like playwright/performer/director John Crutchfield; a new movement/multimedia piece by Kathy Leiner; a moving and poignant performance created and performed by Jenni Cockrell; unique Butoh dance by Julie Becton Gillum; an amazing performance piece by Julian Vorus, Peter Brezny and Sean David Robinson; dance theater by Alexis Miller; a theatrical spectacle by Claire Dima and company; puppetry madness by Keith Shubert; video installation by Claire Elizabeth Barratt; strange shadow puppetry by Jim Julien and other amazing artists!”
There will also be videos and multimedia works by Lucas Bauman and Megan Ransmeier, along with a special showing of performance art soap opera Whispering Pines, by Shana Moulton.
Tickets are $10 for past Fringe artists and $20 for the general public. Special VIP tickets are $100. Tickets are available at the BeBe Theater Box Office. Info at 254-2621.
