If you love Panthertown Valley (and who could not love the 30 miles of public land nestled in the Nantahala National Forest), then pick up your fork and support it. Friends of Panthertown, a volunteer conservation group that works to maintain the area’s natural resources, will host its annual picnic and concert on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
The public is invited to Lake Fairfield at Camp Merrie-Woode in Sapphire for an afternoon of music, food and stewardship. The event is held each year to show appreciation to the group’s members and encourage new volunteers to pick up the fight.
From 3-5 p.m., visitors can enjoy a waterfall hike, trail building demonstration and trip through a lush moss garden. Friends of Panthertown volunteers will be available to answer questions and greet both seasoned adventurers and those who are discovering Panthertown for the first time.
Bring a picnic or purchase food from Al’s BBQ & More from 5-8 p.m. “His food and sauce alone are great excuses for attending this festive end of summer lake party in beautiful Sapphire,” says executive director Jason Kimenker in a press release. “Bring your own or get some there, either way, bon appétit, y’all.”
The picnic and concert will be held at Camp Merrie-Woode in Sapphire, N.C. on Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 3-8 p.m. The camp is located at 100 Merrie-Wood Road off U.S. 64, five miles east of N.C. 107 in Cashiers.
