It’s five stellar singer/songwriters (all female, too) for five bucks. Tomorrow night (Tuesday, Nov. 9). BoBo Gallery at 8 p.m.
For the Birds: A Women’s Songwriter Showcase is now in its second year and showcases some of the best local talent. This particular lineup includes Jenny Greer of Jen and the Juice, Chelsea Lynn Labate of Ten Cent Poetry, Amanda Platt of The Honeycutters, cellist Melissa Hyman, and Dulci Ellenberger (below) of Now You See Them.
According to a press released, “Participants play in the round, meaning all of them are onstage at once. ‘The atmosphere at Bobo is really perfect for this show,’ explains Melissa Hyman, the event’s organizer. ‘It has an intimate, living-room kind of vibe. We want both the musicians and the audience to feel that they’re part of something special.’
“That relaxed atmosphere helped shape last year’s show, which included both local and out-of-town talent. One of the things that makes For the Birds special, Hyman explained, is that the participants play together – like a one-night-only, all-girl supergroup. ‘There were some really breathtaking collaborations last year,’ she recalls. ‘All of the performers added a little to one another’s songs. I think we can expect even more of that at Tuesday’s show.’”
An mix CD of original tunes from all of the performers will be available for sale at the show only. Can’t make the show? It will be streamed live on the web here.
