Local self-described “undie-folk” duo The Moon and You (Melissa Hyman of Sweet Claudette and Ryan Furstenberg of Uncle Mountain — a couple off stage as well as on) plays cello and guitar and sings harmonies. Their songs are heartfelt, but neither cloying nor saccharine. The band says their music “makes folks laugh, cry and miss their boyfriend in Japan.”
The Moon and You perform at The Magnetic Theatre on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The series, a collaboration with Head, Heart, and Hips Music, offers evenings in which “three seasoned singer/songwriter’s are put on stage together to swap songs and share stories. The casual, intimate atmosphere of the theatre invites the audience to become part of the event; each night promises to be a completely unique experience in which the exact combination of who is on stage and who is in the audience creates an evening that could never be replicated.”
The Jan. 16 show is a “special double duo” installment, also featuring Dulci Ellenberger and Daniel Shearin (she of Now You See Them and, like Hyman, of Sweet Claudette; he, like Furstenberg, of Uncle Mountain). 8 p.m., $5.
