When Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist John Colpitts (aka Kid Millions, aka the drummer for Oneida) was looking for a side-project, instead of breaking out an album’s worth of songs, or a surprise clarinet album, he stuck to drums. So, Man Forever, “his vehicle for exploring the outer limits of drum performance, was created to overwhelm, to investigate the nuances that bloom in the midst of repetitive music, and to act as a pure sound experience,” is all drums.
According to publicity for Colpitts’ upcoming Asheville show (at The Get Down on Friday, May 25), while the recently released Pansophical Cataract includes the likes of 18-minute track “Surface Patterns,” that song in the live performance runs 30-40 minutes. And, the Get Down show will include members of White Gregg from Knoxville as part of the Man Forever ensemble. To get an idea of what the show is like, check out this clip:
