Who doesn’t doodle? It’s that basic artistic impulse that comes out during endless phone conversations and ho-hum meetings—the squiggles, bubble letters and cartoon images called on to combat boredom, decorate a Xeroxed page or give an idle pen a task.
Local artist Julie Armbruster has elevated doodling from telephone pad past time to suitable-for-framing status with her lovable, big-eyed cast of characters rendered on mats, buttons and figurines as often as on prints and paintings.
Learn from the master. Ambruster presents Drawn IN, a doodling experiment (as part of the Lark Labs crafting series) on Saturday, April 25, from 1-3 p.m. The free workshop/social event takes place at Lark Books (67 Broadway St., Asheville, 253-0467).
