What: A concert promoting nuclear awareness and a benefit for Mountain Protectors
Where: The Grey Eagle, 185 Clingman Ave.

Why: Local entertainers line up in support of nuclear waste awareness, creating a space where community dialogue meets music, poetry and performance art. Featured guests include Zabumba (a Samba drumming troupe); Honey Holler (a women’s old-time quartet); Roberta Greenspan, Deb Criss and friends of the Buckarettes (described as “cowgirl rockin’ divas”); Jibblin’ (world rock); and Thomas Rain Crowe (poet and performer).
This benefit, hosted by the Nuclear Information and Resource Service, strives to “inform the public about the possibility of Western North Carolina as a corridor for the transport of high-level nuclear waste, and as a location for a nuclear-waste dump site,” as stated in a press release. All proceeds benefit Mountain Protectors, an offshoot of Western North Carolina’s Physicians for Social Responsibly, which supports the awareness and prevention of nuclear waste transportation and dumping in WNC.
