“If you want to be happy, you have to accept life has its zigs and zags,” Chris Barron, former Spin Doctors front man, told Xpress a few years ago.
Barron’s carreer took a near-tragic turn in 1999; a story the singer/songwriter would probably just as soon forget: “During the tour supporting Here Comes the Bride, Chris Barron lost his voice due to a rare acute form of vocal cord paralysis that severely affected his ability to talk, let alone sing,” New York Times wrote. “He was told he had a 50-50 chance of ever talking or singing normally again.”
But Barron went on to create his own project, Pancho and the Kid (though the Spin Doctors do still play occasional shows, including dates in Texas, Nevada and California earlier this summer).

Barron returns to Asheville this week for a Saturday, Aug. 21 show at Club 828. 9 p.m., $10 advance, $15 doors.
