Changes are afoot in the local fashion world: designer R. Brooke Priddy has moved her dressmaking shop from Haywood Road (where she’s been based for a decade) to a new location at 85 State St. Which is a big deal, in and of itself. But the move also allows Priddy to focus on her commission work, and close the chapter on her public storefront and ready-to-wear.
“The new location was sought out in an effort to offer more privacy and spaciousness to clients who visit, by appointment, to have custom-designed gowns built,” Priddy says in an email. “A dye garden is planned for the Spring, along with a dye studio and expanded dressing room.”

But before that happens, the Ship to Shore shop “is open to the public for one day only for an annual sale and party. Many of the handmade one-of-a-kind original garments are marked down up to 70-percent for the Grand Opening event.”
