March is Women’s History month, and in celebration, local textbook design and development company Soomo Publishing released the video, “Bad Romance: Women’s Suffrage.”
According to a press release, “The video pays homage to suffragist Alice Paul and the generations of women who fought to give women the right to vote in 1920. Historical highlights of the video include the Silent Sentinels who protested in front of the White House, the hunger strike staged by imprisoned suffragists, and the role of Tennessee legislator Harry Burn, who cast the single vote needed to ratify the amendment.” Set to Lady Gaga’s song, “Bad Romance,” the video has already attracted more than 200,000 views.
The press release says, “because the focus of Soomo Publishing is education rather than music video production, teaching resources are provided on the video’s website: soomopublishing.com/suffrage. College professors teaching with Soomo’s Americans Governing title can choose between two interactive assignments incorporating the video: one focuses on the suffrage movement and the other highlights the constitutional amendment process.”
