It’s been a long time since Americana/country-rockers Truth & Savage Co. (well, half of the band — vocalist/drummer Bill “Smitty” Smith, vocalist/keyboard player Walker Young and vocalist/guitarist Scott Kinnebrew) were based in Asheville. But the band (which also includes vocalist/guitarist Tim Jones, Adam Grace on organ and Dean Moore on bass) is making their way back home. Or, at least, a lot closer.
After spending a good part of the last decade in Los Angeles, the band relocated to Nashville last spring — though both Young and Smith say they haven’t been able to spend too much time in their new hometown. Touring has kept the group busy; so has working on a new album. (That’s a tracking chart, below.)
The upcoming record, which will be the band’s sophomore effort, has been a long time coming. Truth & Salvage Co.‘s self-titled debut came out in May of 2010 on Chris Robinson (Black Crowes) imprint, Silver Arrow. Last summer, the band released four-song EP, Salvage Songs, Vol. 1.
Since last fall, the group has been at work on a new, 14-song collection. The process has not been without its hitches, but there’s a silver lining: last week Truth & Salvage Co. returned to Asheville to track the new album at Echo Mountain. The recording process wraps today (and, actually, there’s a jangly, high-energy rocker called “Silver Lining”). The record is tentatively titled Pick Me Up, watch for it to be released later this year.
With any luck, that release will take the form of a party/homecoming show in Asheville.
