There’s a battle brewing in the mountains tonight, but instead of tanks and troops, this war will be waged with barbecue and blue cheese.
The Asheville Wing War, presented by Lush Life Today, will pit a dozen local restaurants’ spiciest, finger-staining offerings against one another for the title of Asheville’s finest, while raising funds for My Sister’s Place, a Marshall-based nonprofit that provides services and support to victims of domestic violence.
Entries from Luella’s BBQ, Northside Bar and Grill, City Billiards, Fred’s Speakeasy, Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack, Universal Joint, Ed Boudreaux’s, MoDaddy’s, Mother and Son Bistro, Yacht Club, East Village Grille and Burgermeister’s will be judged by a panel of local celebrities that includes the Xpress’ own Mackensy Lunsford, WNCW’s Joe Kendrick, Rich Brownstein of local indie soul outfit The Broadcast and representatives from My Sister’s Place and Skyland Brewing. Patrons will have a chance to show some love to their favorites with a People’s Choice category.
But the fun doesn’t end there. In addition to delectable eats, the event will feature music by an “Asheville All Star Band” that boasts members of Vertigo Jazz Project, Overflow Jug Band, Brushfire Stankgrass and The Trainwreks.
Whoever takes home the gold, one thing is certain: there are no losers in this war. Admission to the event includes wings (of course), pizza from last year’s winners and beer from Blue Point Brewery.
Festivities begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are available online for $15 or at the door for for $20.
