Asheville HATCHfest, a multidisciplinary arts and cultural mentoring event slated for April 15 to 19, 2009, will host volunteers this Wednesday, May 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Flood Gallery Fine Art Center in the River District’s Phil Mechanic Building.
The festival, which is also held annually in Bozeman, Mont., will be making its first go in Asheville next year. Local organizers hope that HATCHfest, which pairs noted mentors from eight disciplines (film, music, design and technology, fashion, photography, architecture and journalism) with local rising stars, will become an annual affair here as well.
At the Wednesday get-together, the organizers plan to explain the concept behind the festival and form the local committees that will seek out national and international talent to serve as the mentors. Flood and Barefoot Wines, along with the Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company, will provide refreshments and snacks.
To participate, visit www.ashevillehatchfest.org and click on “Get Involved.” (And “be sure to click on OTHER and write RSVP into the space,” the organizers advise.)
