Before opening for Edwin McCain at the Orange Peel last Friday, Knoxville-based singer-songwriter Erick Baker talked to Xpress about his forthcoming album, Goodbye June, why such a happy guy can write such anguished songs and why he keeps coming back to Asheville.
We first met Baker in 2008 when he opened for James Blunt at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. Since then he’d gone on to steadily build his own fan base and consistently deliver gorgeously orchestrated, heartfelt songs about love and loss and life’s bittersweet moments. Baker often performs as a duo with violinist/keyboardist Donnie Reis who is also seen on this video.
Baker returns to Asheville on Saturday, June 30, to perform at the Grey Eagle with fellow Knoxville singer-songwriter/everybodyfields alum Jill Andrews. 9 p.m. $10 in advance or $12 day of show.
