Western North Carolina-based musician Casey Driessen is a fiddler in the way that Michelangelo was a ceiling painter. Exhibit A: In addition to his solo work, the musician was part of projects like Abigail Washburn’s Sparrow Quartet. Exhibit B: Driessen’s video from TEDxAsheville in 2012, when he presented the process behind his album The Singularity. The idea came to him when he was snowed in at a Vermont hotel. Combining the technology of pedals and electronics with organic beats like African rhythms and the pulse of his daughter’s heart, Driessen built his complex, nuanced sound. Exhibit C: Driessen will hold a CD release party for The Singularity at Pisgah Brewing on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 9 p.m. $10/$12.
Here, Casey talks about the album, his music, and what to expect at Saturday’s show. This video was filmed at Satellite Gallery by Jesse Hamm.
