I was shocked when I received the letter indicating the value of my home increased by almost 20% in a single year. I am pleased the county decided to decrease the rate. What I would like to see is, when this bubble is over, the valuation decrease. Somehow, I doubt this will happen.
As to use of the funds, I view this as an “election” issue. Elections have consequences. If we elect good stewards of our county, they will use the money wisely, as they have in the past. If we elect spendthrifts, the funds will be wasted. We need to be careful about who we vote for.

I agree 100%. Let’s clearly define the “need to have” and keep that baseline separated from the “nice to have”. A lot of homeowners that are struggling to pay property taxes would appreciate not having an increase to pay for things we don’t have to have.
And the commissioners preach that affordability is a big issue for them. Haha. Absolutely no reason ffor the Buncombe or Asheville taxes to go up.
Will Asheville taxpayers ever organize to oppose constantly rising property taxes on over- inflated house values? Is there a knowledgeable political organizer to lead a taxpayer revolt?
probably not because the people who own property like to see it go up in value, and typically, THEY are the ones who can pay ever increasing taxes like the good liberals they are … and remember, corporations don’t ‘pay’ taxes, they simple pass them on to the consumer in their prices…anyway, if ya voted Bideng, it’s TIME to suffer !
