In a mere seven years, Andrew Scotchie and the River Rats have released three records and been named Best Rock ‘n’ Roll Band by Xpress Best of WNC voters the last three years running. Combine that with a relentless work ethic and you find a band that’s playing bigger stages all the time.
Family Dynamo was released this summer and features somewhat of a classic rock feel but with a dash of modern, creative energy. Its 10 songs are all original and were recorded with guest appearances from Sean McCann of Hustle Souls and local singer Brie Capone.
You can catch the band Sept. 28-30 at Scotchie’s own festival. Asheville Barnaroo has grown from a backyard event to a bigger stage at Franny’s Farm in Leicester. The festival benefits Asheville Music School and tickets are still available.
During a recent break between shows, Scotchie gave an exclusive performance of four songs at The Grey Eagle. Included in the set were three from his new record and a newly written song called “House of Fire.”
