The whole region is under an ice storm warning today, as the National Weather Service cautions residents about a “wintry mix” of ice and snow through this afternoon.
Warning of “ice and snow accumulations expected across the Tennessee Valley and Southern Appalachian region today,” the NWS expects a change to rain by the afternoon as temperatures increase.
However, the city of Asheville suspended bus service at 7:30 a.m. due to deteriorating road conditions, and schools throughout the area are closed.
