The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the northern part of WNC, including Madison County. The NWS has also issued a wind advisory for the Asheville area, cautioning residents to watch out for downed trees and difficult driving conditions.
“A cold front will cross the region later this morning,” the wind advisory reads. “Winds will turn to the west and northwest across the mountains by late morning and become very gusty during the afternoon, as an area of low pressure strengthens off the mid-atlantic coast. Winds are expected to strengthen by this evening and remain quite strong through the overnight and early Sunday.”
The wind advisory covers the entirety of WNC. Winds will be 15 to 35 mph, with gusts of up to 40 mph in the morning and 50 mph at night.
The winter weather advisory covers Madison, Avery, Yancey, and Mitchell counties, and asks people in those areas to watch out for black ice, light accumulation of snow, and gusty winds. Both advisories are in effect until tomorrow morning.
