Three of this year’s Grammy nominations go to albums recorded at Asheville’s Echo Mountain Studios.
Local bluegrass outfit Steep Canyon Rangers’ 2012 album Nobody Knows You gets the nod for Best Bluegrass Album. They won a Grammy last year for Rare Bird Alert, recorded with Steve Martin.
The Carpenter by North Carolina-based The Avett Brothers has been nominated in the Best Americana Album category. The band appeared on the 53rd Grammy Awards show in 2011, playing “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise.” They also performed “Maggie’s Farm” with Mumford and Sons and Bob Dylan.
And Zac Brown Band’s Uncaged earned a Best Country Album nomination.
Another N.C.-based band makes the cut: Carolina Chocolate Drops’ Leaving Eden is included in the Best Folk Album category.
The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Feb. 10, 2013. We’ll be cheering for Echo Mountain in the Best Recording Studio category. Which really needs to be a thing.
