• Though late Grateful Dead front man Jerry Garcia is no longer with us, that’s no reason not to have a slice of birthday cake to commemorate his bon anniversaire. Or, in lieu of cake, a concert. The One Stop does just that, with Athens, Ga.-based jam-rockers Mama’s Love headlining “a special event celebrating the life and career of Garcia.” A press release says, “The show will include a night of Dead covers, acoustic (All-Stars) and electric (Mama’s Love), similar to the sets played by The Dead in the 1970s. The show also promotes Mama’s Love’s newest release, The Great Divide.”
About Mama’s Love: “Their second full-length studio album The Great Divide, features twelve, tour-tested originals, that explore the depths of the Mama’s Love sound. Recorded by Grammy-nominated producer John Keane (Widespread Panic, R.E.M., The Indigo Girls), the album gives the listener a glimpse of the energetic, live show experience with a precise understanding of production that only Keane could provide. The album flows well from track to track, complete with guest appearances by John Keane and Randall Bramblett.”
Garcia/Grateful Dead tribute band Jerry’s Kids opens. 10 p.m. showtime, $5 cover. Xpress will give away a pair of tickets to this show TODAY (Tuesday) at 1 p.m. via Facebook.
