• Stephanie Perkins, the locally-based author of rom-com YA novels Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door, will be at Pack Library at 6:30 p.m. According to a press release, “Teens ages 12 and up are invited to come meet Stephanie, hear all about her books and enjoy light refreshments.” Info at 250-4720. • Local post-punk/new wave band Total War kicks off a mini tour to New York and DC by first rocking out at Pulp (103 Hilliard Ave.). Diluted Giants (from Charlotte and Boone) also performs. • Though late Grateful Dead front man Jerry Garcia is no longer with us, that’s no reason not to have a slice of birthday cake to commemorate his bon anniversaire. Or, in lieu of cake, a concert. The One Stop does just that, with Athens, Ga.-based jam-rockers Mama’s Love headlining “a special event celebrating the life and career of Garcia.” A press release says, “The show will include a night of Dead covers, acoustic (All-Stars) and electric (Mama’s Love), similar to the sets played by The Dead in the 1970s. The show also promotes Mama’s Love’s newest release, The Great Divide.”
