The Our Carolina Foothills campaign will host the inaugural Taste of Our Carolina Foothills wine and food festival on Sunday, Sept. 28, at Overmountain Vineyards in Tryon. The event is a fundraiser for the Our Carolina Foothills public relations campaign to create awareness about and promote tourism in Landrum, Tryon, Saluda and Columbus.
Visitors will be able to sample food from almost two dozen local restaurants, food trucks, bakeries, cheese makers and chocolatiers, then wash it all down with products from the area’s wineries, distilleries and craft breweries. Flat Rock’s Naked Apple Hard Cider will have samples of their products, and coffee will be available from Little River Roasting Co. of Spartanburg, S.C.
The Carolina Foothills region is currently experiencing a growth spurt partially due to the recent opening of the Tryon International Equestrian Resort, a 1,400-acre luxury resort and equestrian center.
According to Taste of Our Carolina Foothills event organizer Suzanne Strickland, a group of the local vineyard owners have applied to the National Association of American Wineries for the area to be considered as a designated wine-producing region.
Taste of Our Carolina Foothills runs 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at Overmountain Vineyards, 2012 Sandy Plains Road, Tryon. Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 at the gate.
