Drum-and-guitar duo The Low Counts (Matt Walsh on guitar and vocals, Austin Hicks on drums) are based in High Point, N.C., but have been breaking into the music scene in Asheville and the surrounding area. The band performed at The Black Mountain Ale House last weekend (where Xpress caught up with them) following a set at Carolina West Rib Fest.
They return to Jack of the Wood on Saturday, July 19, at 9 p.m. Drunken Prayer also performs. $7. Here, Walsh and Hicks talk about achieving a live sound on their debut album, why mistakes are good, and a surprise comparison to John Denver.
