At its March 20 meeting, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners will consider taking action that could eventually help pave the way for $30 million in capital improvements to Asheville Middle and Isaac Dickson Elementary schools.
Renovations to the two aging facilities are considered a top priority by officials from the Asheville City Schools system. At the county government’s annual retreat in March, Commissioner Holly Jones urged staff to find ways to fund the improvements without raising taxes or cutting services.
Among other actions, commissioners will also hear a report on the county’s efforts to preserve land through conservation easement programs. In 2011, the county helped preserve 2,097 acres of land from development, according to the report.
The board will meet at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, in the commissioners’ chambers, located at 30 Valley St. A short pre-meeting review of the agenda will begin at 4:15 p.m.
