Company Overview
Created in 2010, Motion is a contemporary ballet company seeking to combine the talents of the country’s most gifted dancers, who find themselves unemployed during the summer months. In an atmosphere of creativity and discovery, Motion fosters growth in its dancers by pairing them with exciting, young choreographers and allotting them new opportunities to experiment and grow in ways that might not be possible during their working seasons. In turn, the choreographers are encouraged to take risks and make mistakes, and emphasis is placed on process rather than product.
Seeking to create art that is relevant and affecting, Motion is above all a haven for the artists; A place where they can reach beyond themselves and find new levels of creativity. Motion is a place of change, a process of moving in new directions and…a living body for creativity.
Mission
THE VISION OF MOTION:
Created in 2010, Motion is a contemporary ballet company seeking to combine the talents of the countries most gifted dancers who find themselves unemployed during the summer months. In an atmosphere of creativity and discovery, Motion fosters growth in its dancers by pairing them with up and coming choreographers and allotting them new opportunities to experiment and grow in ways that might not be possible during their working seasons. In turn, choreographers are encouraged to explore and make mistakes, and emphasis is placed on process rather than product.
All of this is accomplished in one of the countries most vibrant hubs for the performing arts, New York City. Seeking to create art that is relevant and affecting, Motion is above all a haven for the artists; A place where they can reach beyond themselves and find new levels of creativity. Motion is a place of change, a process of moving in new directions and a living body for creativity.
