You might be familiar with The Good Old Boyz — Asheville’s Southern rock/outlaw and classic country outfit. The band, which has been around for a couple years now, features some of the area’s most infamous players: guitarist/vocalist Woody Wood (Blue Rags, Hollywood Red), steel guitarist/vocalist Scott Sharpe (Blue Rags, CrackerJack), bassist David Conner Jones (Custard Pie) and drummer Richard Foulk (CrackerJack).
But changes are afoot: Wood says the band is about the change its name to The Hurt Mountain Boys and the group will perform original material (good idea, what with the stellar songwriters in the lineup). Chances are you’ll get something in between band A and band B at the Friday, March 19 show at Stella Blue (31 Patton Ave., 236-2424). Either way, it’s bound to be good. 9 p.m. start time.
Local country band Hay Sugar — as talented as they are easy on the eyes — opens. Here’s what Xpress said about ‘em in the past: “Just a theory, but with the sultry frontwoman, tasteful string tones and contrifried bluegrass-rendered-modern style, Asheville’s Hay Sugar is (effortlessly) what mainstream country act Sugar Town only aspires to. Check out the quartet’s folky-cool takes on classics like ‘Hard to Handle’ and ‘Don’t Think Twice.’”
