Buncombe County’s move to reinstate zoning will continue at Tuesday’s meeting of the board of commissioners. The board plans to decide on whether to pass zoning maps on to the county planning board for review.
The step is part of an ongoing process to reinstate countywide zoning after the N.C. Court of Appeals struck down the county’s 2007 zoning ordinance earlier this year, on the grounds that insufficient notice was given to the public before the rules were approved.
Zoning opponents have mobilized to oppose the process, calling for a referendum on reinstating zoning.
The commissioners will also hear reports on the county’s carbon footprint and the drug interdiction efforts of the sheriff’s office.
The meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m., Aug. 18, in the commissioners’ chambers at 30 Valley St. A short, pre-meeting review of the agenda will begin at 4:15 p.m.
