Asheville, it’s time to show the love for Joel Hutcheson, owner of Static Age Records on Lexington Avenue. He’s got to have back surgery; an all-day event Saturday dubbed Joel Fest will raise money for his medical bills. The event will be behind Izzy’s West Asheville location (363 Haywood Road) from 4 to 10 p.m.
Static Age has put on a ton of awesome in-store, all-ages shows: Proof that rock doesn’t have to mean booze and smokes—it can be just about the music. Last month, for example, Reigning Sound and Ahleuchatistas played at the store on separate nights for Record Store Day weekend.
Bands playing Joel Fest include a mix of punk, hardcore, experimental, prog-rock/math-rock/jazz and more: Witch Hunt, Ahleuchatistas, Kakistocracy, Soft Opening, Flies Around It, Doom Ribbons, Ventricles, Space Weed, Sunshine SS and Resistor. There will also be a silent art auction featuring work from some of Asheville’s finest artist and a raffle featuring prizes from this sweet list:
Prizes from Zambra, Hip Replacements, Hot Stuff Tattoo, Rosetta’s Kitchen, Heiwa, The Admiral, Voltage, Push Skate Shop, Short Street Cakes, Custom, Early Girl, Marco’s Pizza, Honeypot, Downtown Books & News, Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria, Izzy’s Coffee Den, Adorn Salon & Boutique, Doc Chey’s, Harvest Records, Flipside, The Rocket Club, Blue Ridge To Go, Liquid Dragon, L’eau de Vie, Firestorm Cafe & Books and more.
Bring a $5 to $10 donation. Raffle tickets are $3 each, available at Static Age, TV Eye, Izzy’s and Harvest Records.
Sunday night head to Rosetta’s for cauldron soup night (with cornbread!). All donations go to Joel, too.
