While everyone else is out celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners has manufacturer incentives, a rezoning and a whole bevy of reports — including one on consolidating county facilities — on its agenda.
At its retreat in January, the board asked county staff to bring back to them options for consolidating many of the county’s far-flung facilities under one roof in a central location. Either acquiring a new facility or building one could cost from $30-60 million.
The board will consider a $45,000 economic-incentive grant for Plasticard-Locktech International, which is currently expanding its facility and adding 38 jobs.
The commissioners will also hear reports on the status of the Pack Square Park construction and the county’s Aging Plan, as well as consider whether to rezone two properties in the Airport Road area from Residential to Employment zoning.
This will be the board’s last meeting in room 204 of the Buncombe County Courthouse. The meeting will start at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, with a pre-meeting at 4:15. Due to space issues, beginning in April, the commissioners will start meeting at 60 Valley St.
