The draft Downtown Master Plan will not appear before Asheville City Council in March as planned, says project manager Sasha Vrtunski.
At a Feb. 13 meeting, the Downtown Commission determined it needed more time to go over comments from consultants Goody Clancy. Those comments, the latest in a series of back-and-forth comments from city commissions and the Asheville public and responses by Goody Clancy, proved too long and complex to tackle in one meeting, Vrtunski says.
In order to stay on schedule, the Planning and Zoning Commission would have to reviews the draft the first week of March, meaning the Downtown Commission would have to sign off on the plan by next week. Considering the length of Goody Clancy’s latest response, Vrtunski says, that’s not going to happen.
“There’s just no way,” she told Xpress.
For now, it looks like the draft will be scheduled to go before Council sometime in April.
