Tomorrow is the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners last meeting of the year, with one major item, endorsing a plan for the I-26 connector, on the agenda. But expect the Parkside issue, due to the recently approved demolition of the Hayes & Hopson building, to come up as well.
Last month, the commissioners looked at several possible plans for the I-26 connector, and, at tomorrow’s meeting, will probably decide on endorsing one of the plans.
After the Downtown Commission, in a 7-2 vote, gave its blessing to Parkside developer Stewart Coleman‘s demolition of the Hayes & Hopson building, anti-Parkside activist Steve Rasmussen said he and others would be calling on the board to resolve the issue by seizing part of the site through eminent domain. So the issue may well arise in the commissioners’ pre-meeting public-comment period.
The meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, in room 204 of the Buncombe County Courthouse. A pre-meeting, including public comment, begins at 4 p.m.
