We are writing to endorse the candidacy of Suzanne Reynolds for the North Carolina Supreme Court.
We have known Suzanne since graduate school and have witnessed her caring attitude in every facet of her life. A native of North Carolina, Suzanne is a suma cum laude graduate of Meredith College. She has a master’s degree in journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill and her juris doctorate, cum laude, from Wake Forest University. While attending Wake Forest, she served as editor of the Law Review.
Suzanne, for the past 27 years, has been a professor of law at Wake Forest. During her distinguished career, she has become recognized as one of North Carolina’s outstanding legal minds and an authority in the field of family law—an important expertise in which there is currently a void on the court. Suzanne has written the three-volume treatise that is used by the state’s courts and lawyers in the field. She was a principal drafter of statutes that modernized the law of both alimony and of adoption in North Carolina, and [she] co-founded a domestic violence program that received national recognition by the American Bar Association for providing legal assistance to the poor. Suzanne was named North Carolina’s distinguished Woman of the Year in 1998. Her perspectives are cited by courts outside of North Carolina, and [she] recently joined a U.S. Supreme Court justice in a lecture series.
Suzanne’s enthusiasm extends to serving her community. She is a longtime member of her church’s choir and served as its senior warden. Suzanne is also on the board of directors for the Center for Urban Ministries, the Children’s Law Center of Central North Carolina and the Center for Community Safety.
North Carolina’s Supreme Court needs a person with Suzanne Reynolds’ legal experience, intellectual reputation and regard for all people.
