Le Tour de Leaves: The 10th annual Tour de Leaves offers one of the region’s most scenic fall bicycle rides. Suitable for all experience levels and starting at Harmon Field in Tryon, the event offers a metric century (66 miles), a half-metric (32 miles) and a Family Fun Ride with a four- or eight-mile option. It includes SAG wagons, stocked rest stops, an after-ride meal, access to showers and well-marked routes and cue sheets. Proceeds support the scholarship fund at the Henderson County Family YMCA and Friends of Harmon Field.
Online registration is available at www.active.com until midnight on Oct. 16. Mail-in registration forms are available on the YMCA Web site (www.ymcahendersoncounty.org). You can also register in person at the Henderson County Family YMCA (810 6th Ave. West, Hendersonville).
Sponsor a superhero: A hit in its first year, the second annual Superhero’s 5K Race will once again grace the streets of Asheville on Saturday, Nov. 8, with runners in panty hose, tighty whiteys, the finest Lycra and the springiest spandex. But first, the event needs sponsors. And, of course, it needs superheroes (and villains) in all the above finery.
The event benefits the Asheville Fire and Rescue and Asheville Police departments. And there’s a costume contest for the best SuperHero and the Best Villain.
