A piece of the Rock: Chimney Rock Park will celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 7. The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will include guided hikes, rock climbing, a “trail challenge” and special exhibits.
There is no additional fee for the programs, but regular admission to the park does apply. For more information, visit www.chimneyrockpark.com.
Rough and tumble: The sportswear company La Sportiva blazes a trail to Asheville at the end of this month as a new sponsor of the Rock2Rock Run 10K.
Scheduled for Friday, May 30, the race begins and ends at Lake Eden in Black Mountain, taking in a 1,500-foot climb to the summit of Choctaw Rock and then passing along a ridgeline to Eden Rock before heading down.
Black Dome Mountain Sports in Asheville is the event’s chief local sponsor. Co-owner Jay Curwen says that the Roc2Rock Run 10K, which from here on out will be a part of the $25,000-purse La Sportiva Mountain Cup, has something for everyone.
“Single track trails, multiple river crossings, horrible climbs, fast descents—the Rock2Rock has it all,” Curwen said. “Black Dome Mountain Sports is proud to be partnering with La Sportiva as they help grow grassroots trail racing in the United States.”
Start time is 5 p.m.; registration is $35. For the whole picture, visit www.rock2rockrun.com. For a complete list of Mountain Cup venues, visit www.mountainrunning.com.
