Calling all plant lovers: UNCA’s biology department will hold its 36th annual Spring Wildflower and Bird Pilgrimage on Friday, May 2, through Sunday, May 4. The event comprises 12 sessions, including talks, walks and guided tours, all of which focus on local flora and fauna.
Along with presentations on regional ecology and the Appalachian old-growth forests, the Pilgrimage features outings such as a birding trip to Craggy Gardens, a beginner’s wildflower identification trip, and tours of native flora.
Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in the lobby of UNC Asheville’s Rhoades-Robinson Hall. Cost is a very affordable $5 for adults and $1 for students. For more information, call David Clarke, UNCA associate professor of biology, at 232-5151 or visit www.unca.edu/biology.
Locavores gone wild: The Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) announces the launch of a searchable local-food guide representing more than 300 farms, markets, grocers and organizations throughout the Carolinas.
