At its Tuesday, Feb. 26 meeting, Asheville City Council will consider an adjusted annexation map, showing outlying areas that could be brought into the city in the future. The city already approved a similar map in 2006, but such resolutions are good for two years and must be reaffirmed, according to staff documents. The map has also been adjusted for areas that have already been annexed, and a small area cut off by a Woodfin annexation has also been removed.
The staff report stresses that the adoption of the map does not ensure annexation, but any such move is likely to raise protests from residents in Buncombe County opposed to the practice.
Council will also hear reports on a clean air community trust and may adopt a comprehensive bicycle plan that has been making the rounds in Asheville.
