Green Drinks discusses: A green roof for the Civic Center?

The Asheville Green Drinks July 6 event features a presentation on green roofs by advocate Cathy Holt. It includes a short, international history of this phenomenon and some details on the environmental angles of putting a living roof over your head.

The city of Asheville, which has allocated $1.5 million for a new Civic Center roof, received no “green” proposals — and indeed only two proposals at all — from some 300 requests mailed out in May. But the idea has not been totally plowed under, and Holt and others hope to see it survive and flourish.

Asheville Green Drinks convenes every Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Bobo Gallery on Lexington Avenue downtown. For additional information on this or other programs, see their Web site.
