Sale Away

It might be chilly outside ,but we’ve got some hot tips for the bargain-obsessed.

• Downtown Asheville boutique 68 Lexi (68 Lexington Ave., 251-1170) is holding a first birthday party this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15) where shoppers get the treats. Look for deals up to 50% off on new spring fashions.

• Locally-owned online organic clothing retailer The Oko Box is holding web auctions for special pieces. One-of-a-kind designer items can be purchased by emailing bids to info@theokobox.com. Bidding starts at the wholesale price, and the winning bidder is notified at the auction’s end.

Goodwill Industries has long been renowned for turning cast-off clothing into a multitude of good works, like education, job training and career services for disabled and disadvantaged people. The retail stores are also pretty popular with thrift-shop fans. And if $3.50 shirts weren’t enough of a deal, the local outlet at 1616 Patton Ave. has gone one better. A second store, recently opened behind the retail center, offers bins of apparel, bedding and linens for sale by weight. Stuff a bag, pay $1.10 per pound. For info, call 298-9023.
