By now you’ve probably read the story of Bryan Killian, the North Buncombe High School student recently suspended for wearing pirate gear — which, he insists, is a testament to his beliefs in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
But you might not have heard the story, and now’s your chance. On Friday, Killian was interviewed on “The State of Things,” a program on Chapel Hill radio station WUNC. In the broadcast, the student/pirate elaborates on “pastafarian” doctrines and tells host Frank Stasio that “I’ve always, you know, thought ahead, and not exactly thought with the crowd … and this is just me being myself.” Give a listen here.
Meanwhile, Asheville-based writer Jason Bugg, whose interview with Killian appeared in this week’s Xpress, offers up more details on his encounters with both the “pirate boy” and local school officials in his blog, “So Much for Tact.” Read Bugg’s bit here.
