Not like you needed an excuse to go out for a drink after work, but here’s a heads up about a new “green scene” brewing at Bobo Gallery in downtown Asheville every Friday.
Back in 1989, in a pub in London, an environmentalist named Edwin was sharing a drink with a friend when they encountered a few other eco-minded acquaintances sitting nearby. They pushed their tables together and unwittingly sparked an international movement. Today, Green Drinks — an informal environmentalist gathering for networking, brainstorming, socializing and, of course, sipping down a drink or two — is happening in local bars everywhere from South Africa to Switzerland.
And last week, Green Drinks started up here in Asheville. This Friday and every Friday at Bobo Gallery on Lexington Avenue, from 6:30 p.m. onwards, local enviros are invited to stop in, partake in some local brews and socialize with green folk from all over the city. Green Drinks was organized by Joseph Malki of Seven-Star Inc., an Asheville-based green event planner.
