Grand Bohemian hosts National Truffle Fest, Stag’s Leap Vineyards
There’s quite a bit going on at the Grand Bohemian Hotel this month. Some of the region’s biggest culinary talents are soon to arrive on the scene — along with a ridiculous amount of truffles — for the National Truffle Festival at the inn’s Red Stag Grill. Statewide Out of Control tour stops in West Asheville
A coalition of groups critical of the North Carolina general assembly stopped by the West Asheville Public Library as part of its statewide Out of Control tour. Sponsored by Democracy North Carolina, the Institute for Southern Studies, the North Carolina branch of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, N.C. Policy Watch and Progress North Carolina, the tour’s stated goal is to “stop out-of-control right wing extremist lawmakers from ruining North Carolina before it’s too late,” according to the event’s website.
PHOTOS: UNC Asheville dumpster dives into waste reducing competition
Coming down the stairs of Ramsey Library, students and faculty faced the unmistakable smell of UNC Asheville’s trash. Despite the cold, grounds workers and the recycling coordinator, Zig, searched for recyclable and compostable items discarded in trashcans and sorted them on a large blue tarp on the quad. The demonstration was part of Recyclemania, an international competition to increase recycling and reduce waste.
