At tonight’s East Asheville community meeting, members of the public flooded City Council members with their concerns about the fate of the Asheville water system, the need for more sidewalks and ideas for the Municipal Golf Course. About 50 people attended the meeting. These are the highlights.

Last night, Occupy Asheville’s coordinating council agreed on a letter asserting its camp in front of City Hall is “a representation of the people’s natural rights.” While not explicitly rejecting a proposal by Asheville City Council to voluntarily decamp, the letter didn’t accept it either, leaving an impasse over the fate of the camp heading into Council’s Feb. 14 meeting.
The Asheville cycling community has made some major strides over the past few years, thanks in large part to the efforts of Asheville on Bikes. Now, area riders have a new outlet for sharing stories and highlighting upcoming events with the emergence of VeloCity, a quarterly magazine dedicated exclusively to cycling in the Asheville area. Oh yeah, and I’m in it.
