WE DO campaign protesters convicted for trespassing, fined $10

For refusing to leave the office of the Register of Deeds on Oct. 14, the Rev. Kathryn Cartledge and Elizabeth Eve were today found guilty of 2nd-degree Criminal Trespass in Buncombe County District Court. Both were found guilty and fined $10 plus court costs.

Asheville City Council preview: Camped out

A proposed permitting process for the Occupy Asheville encampment (which the protesters have rejected), is the main issue on Asheville City Council’s agenda tonight. Council will also consider a 92-unit apartment complex in South Asheville and changes to the city’s annexation plans, among other issues.

Turning Japanese, part 2: The meal

On Sunday, Jan. 22, the Blind Pig — a not-for-profit dinner club held in various “secret” locations around Asheville — hosted the Rising Sun dinner, a 12-course (13 if you count the pickles) Japanese meal prepared by chefs from the Admiral and Cucina 24. There are five movies coming to town this week, which I guess puts us on equal footing with last week in terms of quantity. There are two art titles. Those represent the feast, you see. Then there are three titles that—from all appearances—are about as far from art as one can imagine. That, then, is the famine.
