Getaway: Star Watch Tours brings night vision stargazing to Asheville

Star Watch Night Vision Tours creator Dawn Bankson sums up the idea behind her business pretty succinctly: “The ancients used to look up at the sky, but we don’t,” she explains.  At it’s core, that’s what Star Watch is, a chance to look up at the sky. Of course, Star Watch adds a small twist to that rather ordinary experience: $3,500 night vision goggles.

Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center and Norte Maar, a nonprofit arts organization based in Brooklyn, N.Y., host a night of collaborative performance, poetry, music and dance at the Masonic Temple Saturday, Aug. 6, at 8 p.m. The show’s title remains prospective: Untitled (as of yet). They’d better hurry! The event is tonight!

Busk Break: The Battle

Members of Oakland, CA,-based Tornado Rider were busking in downtown Asheville during a night off from their tour earlier this year when they were aggressively approached by Miami, FL,-based rapper Layla Youssef Bessiso. The resulting musical combat may not be safe for work (NSWF), but grows increasingly entertaining as the back-and-forth continues.
