Whether or not to take Insane Clown Posse seriously is hard to discern. Its fan base seems divided in thirds: those who enjoy the campy aspect of the belligerence and genuinely enjoy the music, those who think it’s hilariously ironic, and those who take it absolutely deadpan serious. I’m mainly worried about that last third.
Sandra Travis, program director for Asheville’s festivals, has denied consulting with the Asheville Police Department before deciding not to book a hip-hop act for the Bele Chere festival. However, a new email reveals that one of Travis’ staff believed otherwise, asserting her boss would consult with the APD “about community temperament.” The city omitted the email from an earlier release to Xpress.
Few Asheville dining establishments can boast the staying power and history of the Silver Dollar Cafe, a diner that’s been open for decades in the River Arts District. Before the neighborhood was a hot spot for arts and food, the diner was a haunt for the average blue-collar Ashevillean. But that’s all about to change.
