The election season for Asheville City Council, and several other municipalities, kicked off today as the official filing period opened at noon. Incumbent Council member Bill Russell and candidate Marc Hunt both showed up at the Board of Elections to file.

Redistricting: By-the-number breakdown

The proposed 11th Congressional District, which includes the city of Asheville, would lose almost 9,000 registered Democrats and gain more than 26,000 Republicans, according to stats released on the North Carolina General Assembly website.
