Bill for seizure of Asheville’s water system drastically revised, now calls for study
A controversial bill proposed by state Rep. Tim Moffitt that would originally have seized Asheville’s water system and transferred it to the Metropolitan Sewerage District has been drastically revised. The current version of the bill calls for studying the efficiency of moving the water systems of large cities to a MSD.
Neon Heathens at Push Skateshop & Gallery
This Friday, Push Skateshop & Gallery (25 Patton Ave) presents Neon Heathens, a local artist showcase curated by painter Gabriel Shaffer. The show opens at 7 p.m. and features pieces from Andy Herod, Michael Hsuing, Shaffer himself, along with Nicolas Pecoraro, Shawn Oldham, Nathanael Roney, Heironymous and Jesse Reno. Xpress’ Nathanael Roney will do a poetry reading and Ben Lovett will provide the tunes.
Forest Service targets marijuana cultivation in national forests
The Forest Service is advising hikers, campers, birdwatchers, and other forest visitors to be mindful of an “extremely dangerous” group of forest users: marijuana growers. National Forests of North Carolina press officer Stevin Westcott tells Xpress that marijuana seizures in North Carolina during fiscal year 2010 totaled 38,202 plants — a big increase over the 3,010 plants seized the year before.
